Welcome back from Superintendent Cindy Bear

August 11, 2020

Families,

I know this has been long time coming, but we are ready to start school! We have waited for guidance to come out from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) and the Colorado Department of Education (CDE). These two entities worked together to provide statewide guidance to districts. The Park County School District administration team poured over the guidance documents and adjusted the plan we created to ensure adherence to current restrictions and mandates. We then surveyed our staff members to find out how the district could put things into place for their personal safety. School cannot happen with no staff. The plan now has been updated to reflect the current level needed in each environment in order to open and the calendar for the school year has been determined.

The first thing to address is the district calendar. The board approved a calendar back in March but a lot of things have happened since then and due to the needs, a new calendar will need to be adopted. We are offering full remote learning, full time on campus, part time on campus, or an individualized hybrid classroom so the amount of planning required to prepare for all of those options, is intense. We have several safety measures set to be in place but need time for products to arrive and to be installed. The board will be asked to approve a new calendar next Thursday, the 20th that has a later start date. The proposed calendar is attached so you can start preparing.

The next task we needed to tackle was the plan itself. There are different levels for each environment in the school setting. The starting levels are now noted on the plan by a red outline. The plan is also attached.

Finally, you will notice on the calendar there are “student orientation” days. We must treat every student as a “new” student since school will look so different from the past. Since there are limits to the number of people we can have at one presentation, we will have to schedule small groups over a three to four day period. During orientation we will go over new restrictions, guidelines, and expectations as well as hand out student laptops.

Feel free to reach out to our school offices if you have questions. As always, thank you for your patience and your flexibility.
