Welcome Back Message from Park County Re 2 Superintendent

Start of the New School Year on the Horizon

By: Joe Torrez, Superintendent Park County School District Re 2

All preparations for the 2017-18 school year have been completed.   We're just waiting on the kids!  The Park County District is eagerly awaiting the arrival of students at every level- from those starting their first day of preschool or Kindergarten to those Seniors looking to put a capstone on their high school experience before tackling their next challenge.

The Park County School District welcomes and strongly encourages parent involvement in our schools.  We have a wonderful, supportive, and vibrant community, and a strong relationship with parents and the community at large only makes us better. Whatever interests you, we can find a place for you to be involved!

We have some bid district initiatives this year that we are excited about.  We are in the first year of planning for the School Based Health Center which, when launched, will provide quick and local access to medical, dental, and behavioral health services right here on campus in Fairplay.   We also have added an additional middle school/high school counselor that will allow our district to increase our efforts on post-secondary workforce readiness.  We have also, through a grant from the Colorado Office of Behavioral Health added two Behavioral Health Specialists that will provided and coordinate services to our students and families.

Teachers are participating in professional development this week, sharpening their skills for a productive school year.   I also want to remind everyone that Back to School Nigh is scheduled for Thursday, August 17 from 4:30-6:00pm.   This is a great opportunity to meet teachers and staff, drop off school supplies, see the facility and reconnect with friends and families.  There will be many different organizations with information about programs and activities that students can join, and that parents can become involved with.   Please check the district website www.parkcountyre2.org  or call the school office for more details.

Park County District is an excellent place to live, learn and grow.   We are deeply committed to providing a first class education experience for our students and in meeting our mission statement below:

"Park County Re 2 schools shall strive to provide a safe environment, meaningful opportunities and innovative educational programs for all students so that they reach their learning potential, including that they meet or exceed state and district content standards, through partnership between home, school and the community."
