    Program Overview

Park County RE2 School District participates in this state and federal funded program that allows our school district to seek partial reimbursement from  the state of Colorado for the health and medical services provided in the school setting to students who have an Individual Education Plan (IEP) or other plan of care, and are on Medicaid. Colorado law requires these reimbursement funds be used to enhance, expand and improve the health and wellness of our Park County RE2 School students.

Past monies have allowed the district to purchase and support the following:

Adaptive equipment and communication devices Medical and safety supplies Mental health programs and assessments Immunization, vision and dental clinics CPR training for CCSD staff

Parents of those Medicaid-eligible students in our district can be reassured that the school's Medicaid reimbursement does not affect the family's personal Medicaid benefits in any way.

Growth and the Future We believe that healthy students are better learners. It is exciting to see how the Medicaid Program has grown over the years. Because the school district has a limited budget, participating in this Medicaid program allows the district to support many programs and purchase specialized health equipment that the district could otherwise not afford.

There are 3 priority areas identified for use of the future program's reimbursement funds:

    1. Increase Mental Health Services 2. Increase the number of CPR/First Aid certified district employees 3. Support the district health providers with equipment to service the students they work with.

Local Service Plan The Medicaid Local Service Plan (LSP) Committee consists of parents, community partners and district staff. This Committee meets every five years to determine how Medicaid funds will be spent. 

If you are interested in becoming part of the Medicaid LSP Committee, please contact the Medicaid department at becky.keeling@parkcountyre2.org or 719-836-4401.

About

IMPORTANT!

Are you enrolled in Health First Colorado (Colorado’s Medicaid Program) and Child Health Plus Plan (CHP)? For the past few years during the Public Health Emergency, individuals and families were automatically re-enrolled for these programs. However, Congress ended the automatic re-enrollment process beginning May 11, 2023 and you must currently re-enroll annually again.

Learn more about how to re-enroll here. (LINK)

Common questions families are asking at this point is how they can get questions answered about renewal, or where they can go to find help filling out paperwork. Here are two useful resources:

1.    Contact the county’s Human Services Department. (LINK)

2.    Call our local certified application assistance site, Rocky Mountain Rural Health. (LINK)

Each year a significant portion of our school district’s budget is spent on health services for our students. Healthy bodies make strong minds, and it’s our District’s belief that district resources spent on health services for our students is an investment in a strong future for the entire community.

The PCSD School Medicaid Reimbursement Program (also known as the School Health Services Program) allows our school district to seek partial reimbursement for health-related services we provide to Medicaid-enrolled students who have plans of care such as IEPs, Behavior Plans, Health Care Plans and Health-related 504 plans.

Claiming for health-related services given at school DOES NOT take from or diminish a child’s Medicaid* benefits in other settings. The funds generated by this program DO NOT effect nor limit a child’s personal Medicaid benefits or private insurance in any way. The School Health Services program is completely separate from individual health insurance policies.

Per Colorado’s School Health Services Program, reimbursements to school districts must be used to support health-related services and programs to improve or enhance health and wellness for all students. Reimbursement funds currently support:

·      School Nursing Positions

·      Mental Health Positions, Coordination and Program Support

·      Medicaid and Child Health Plan Plus (CHP+) Outreach and Enrollment

*Colorado’s Medicaid program is called HEALTH FIRST COLORADO. To determine your student’s eligibility for Medicaid, you may apply online at Colorado.gov/PEAK.
