On September 16, at 10:15 a.m., Park County School District RE-2 conducted our first lockdown drill of the 2026–2027 school year. The purpose of the drill was to practice and evaluate our emergency lockdown procedures and to test our new Raptor Emergency System.
Law enforcement officers and first responders were present and actively involved in the drill. Their participation provided them with an opportunity to observe our classrooms, procedures, and overall response more closely and to provide valuable feedback that will help us continue to strengthen our emergency preparedness and response.
Our students and staff were awesome! I am extremely proud of how well our students followed the directions and procedures they have practiced in their classrooms. They took the drill seriously, remained calm and quiet, and stayed with their teachers throughout the exercise. Our school administration, law enforcement officers, and first responders were able to observe the school environment and response procedures as part of the evaluation process.
While drills are an important part of preparing for an emergency, we also recognize that practicing these procedures can feel different for every student. Our goal is to ensure that our students and staff are prepared, confident, and able to respond appropriately should a real emergency ever occur.
